Every person has a story.

Are you a local with a story to tell?
The Dunbar DIY Film Festival is a free community-sourced film & digital storytelling festival, designed to bring the stories of our neighbourhood to life.
Made possible by a Vancouver Foundation Neighbourhood Small Grant and local volunteers, the festival is looking for submissions!
As COVID-19 keeps us all closer to home, there's no better time to celebrate the place we come from. And, as theatres and performances spaces across the city remain shut, we must look within ourselves for stories. Every community has stories to tell. Beautiful stories. Hidden stories. Unexpected stories...of the blocks we live on, the people we meet, and the places that define us. And so, all submissions to the Dunbar DIY Film Festival must be neighbourhood ones. You don't need to live in Dunbar to participate, but the film's subject matter should engage with the community and/or its environs in some way.
The festival will stream online in July, in a socially-distanced digital community celebration!
June 22nd-July 17th, 2020
In the spirit of community engagement and learning, the Dunbar DIY Film Festival will be offering a free online workshop to teach Digital Storytelling skills!
Do you have a story to tell, but don't know where to begin?
Does technology scare you?
Do you have certain skills you want to improve on, or skills you want to share?
The Digital Storytelling workshop is a safe, judgement-free space to learn new skills and create a story for digital platforms. The result will be a short film or filmed performance, to be shared with the community online. We especially encourage applications from people who might never have had the chance to create something like this before.
Projects from the Digital Storytelling Workshop will screen at the Dunbar DIY Film Festival in July!
